Omaha, NE, July 9, 2019 – Each year, Azria Health Montclair supports American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL)‘s National Skilled Nursing Care Week (NSNCW, formerly National Nursing Home Week) in unique ways. This year’s theme was “Live Soulfully”, and we chose to think outside of the box and ask, “What does every soul need to survive?” The answer was clear: water.
The Azria Health Montclair team decided to live soulfully by donating to Aqua Africa, a non-profit serving a mission to bring clean water infrastructure to places in Africa. Their mantra is “Without water, nothing can grow,” and it was important to be a part of that movement and engage our local community to partner in making a difference.
Throughout the week, we fundraised in various ways, including creating 19 baskets valued at $50+ each with items donated from local Omaha businesses. People bought raffle tickets for a chance to win and a grand drawing was held at the end of the week. Staff and family also contributed baked goods for our bake sale. Finally, we held a pancake feed and attendees had the option to give donations. Azria Health principals, Noah Kaminer and Steve Hornung, graciously matched dollar for dollar every donation that was made and, in the end, we raised $1,465.
Aqua Africa’s headquarters are also in Omaha and it was wonderful to donate to a local non-profit that is doing global work. Lauren Ackerman, Director of Life Enrichment at Azria Health Montclair, has a personal connection to Aqua Africa. She went to college with Buey Ray Tut, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Aqua Africa and has remained close friends since, so the connection to the non-profit is especially meaningful.
Lauren reflected, “This week was all about showing others how we live soulfully at Azria Health Montclair. We were privileged to raise money for an organization that has found the epitome of that message. We hope that this encourages others in our community to help as well!”
“Buey and the team at Aqua Africa are a living testament to the value of the entrepreneurial spirit – not just thinking there is a better way, but persevering and working hard to make it so,” said Azria Health Principal Steve Hornung. “We are proud to call ourselves partners of such a life-saving endeavor. It is emblematic of the changes we seek to make every day at Azria Health. And a special thank you is owed to Lauren Ackerman for spearheading this project and for her tireless efforts in making it so successful.”
Azria Health Montclair would also like to thank all of the local businesses that helped to make this week possible! We are privileged to work so closely with such an amazing community!
